Azimuth

On July 23rd of 2018 a 10’ flash flood swept through our quiet valley, washing downstream animals, debris, fences and tumbling boulders. My work went from the universal to the personal, understanding that the presumed control over the environment had evolved to a “new norm.” The Azimuth series of 108 panels began thus, with catching short times in the studio, working with black ink and monotypes on Japanese papers, regurgitating the broken world of destruction into my symbolic art form. Three lines of red added indicate river in Japanese kanji.
